Strengthening Cyber Resilience in Windsor-Essex
On October 20th, regional leaders, cybersecurity experts, students and professionals from across Windsor-Essex will gather at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts for Operation: Defend the North 2026 (Windsor), a national cyber readiness exercise presented by siberX and hosted by St. Clair College. The event challenges participants to respond to a simulated cyber crisis targeting cross-border logistics, automotive manufacturing, and critical supply chain infrastructure in one of North America’s most important border regions.
Why Exercises Like This Matter
Cyberattacks are no longer isolated incidents. A significant cyberattack can disrupt business operations, public services, healthcare delivery, manufacturing, transportation, and the supply chains that keep our economy moving. Events like Operation: Defend the North provide organizations with an opportunity to practice decision-making, strengthen collaboration, and identify vulnerabilities before a real-world crisis occurs.

By bringing together leaders from multiple sectors, this exercise promises to help build the relationships and coordination needed to respond effectively when incidents cross organizational and jurisdictional boundaries.
Investing in Regional Cybersecurity Talent
Participation in this event aligns closely with the work of Connecting Windsor-Essex (CWE) to advance the region’s digital resilience and cybersecurity maturity. It builds on CWE’s recent investment in cybersecurity workforce development, including supporting 18 professionals from across the region in CISSP training.
As organizations throughout Windsor-Essex continue to adopt new technologies and expand their digital operations, maintaining a strong cybersecurity posture becomes increasingly important. Together, advanced training and hands-on exercises like Operation: Defend the North are helping develop the expertise and preparedness needed to protect Windsor-Essex’s digital future.
Building Readiness for a Safer Region
As cyber threats continue to grow in complexity, preparation and collaboration remain our strongest defenses. Connecting Windsor-Essex is proud to support initiatives that strengthen our region’s cybersecurity posture and bring together the leaders, organizations, and professionals working to protect Windsor-Essex’s digital future. Together, we are building a more secure, resilient, and connected region.
