I am pleased to share this regular addition to our CWE newsletter with useful information relating to cybersecurity, funding, partnership opportunities, and more so you can remain in the know!
This first edition relates to incident response (IR) preparation. As we know from Benjamin Franklin, “failing to prepare, is preparing to fail.” Sadly, this is a familiar story for organizations of all sizes when it comes to cybersecurity incident response exercises. Busy schedules and tight budgets can make it easy for these exercises to fall off the map – and knowing where to start can seem like an insurmountable challenge.
However, these exercises are highly recommended by industry experts to be run multiple times per year to ensure that an organization’s IR plan and team are adequately prepared for real cyberattacks. In fact, according to IBM, companies that have incident response teams and regularly test their incident response plans using tabletop exercises or simulations can reduce the cost of a data breach, saving up to $2 million USD on the total cost compared to those that did not.
This imperative is why CWE is working with our stakeholders to build custom IR plans and run realistic onsite scenarios to ensure our region is prepared for what is to come and we see a future where this knowledge is shared with our broader CWE membership and business community as a whole.
