This month CWE members were joined by ethical hacker and cybersecurity expert Frank Fazio of CySat Security, a cyber preparedness training firm based in Windsor-Essex, to learn about how their teams have already adopted tools like ChatGPT – and how it’s putting them at risk.
More than half of Canadians use AI at work
About 46% of Canadian workers already use AI in their jobs, and the trend isn’t close to slowing down. Frank discussed how despite tools like Grok pulling from real-time data for their results, many chat bots still produce unreliable results. Not only that, but online AI tools collect user data, regardless of how sensitive it is, to continue to train their models.

Hackers are becoming more sophisticated because of AI
Beyond risks caused by the tools themselves, cyber threat actors continue to evolve by using AI to enhance their attacks. With less that a minute of audio, anyone can create a convincing voice clone which could be used to trick loved ones or employers. Image generators are also becoming more reliable, now able to reproduce sensitive government documents and receipts.
Frank offers the following key strategies for leaders looking to take a proactive approach to AI in the workplace:
- Create good sense policy to help staff understand when and when not to use AI
- Be careful what you input into AI tools and never share sensitive information
- Always review AI results to verify their accuracy

The CWE team stands with Frank after a successful training session. From left to right: Aislyn Laurent (CWE), Navraj Toor (CWE), Bryson Doherty (CWE), Laura McCabe (CWE), Joanne Soave (CWE), Frank Fazio (CySat Security), Adam Craig (ECL), Ewan Cross (CWE), Natalie Hatch (ECL).
Frank says knowing where and how AI is being used in your organization is the first step to being prepared. Training on AI governance and risk is in high demand, keeping him busy delivering this critical information to organizations across the region.
CWE offers a sincere thanks to Frank for sharing his insight, and is excited to continue to offer world class learning opportunities to members, helping keep the Windsor-Essex region safe and secure.
Learning opportunities like this can be the difference between air-tight cybersecurity posture and high risk data leaks. Support the safety of your team by learning more about membership today.
